INEC DECLARES YAHAYA BELLO WINNER OF KOGI ELECTIONS




4O Year old- Alhaji Yahaya Bello has been declared the winner of the of the Kogi State Gubernatorial elections! Bello, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared duly elected by the  Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after polling a total of 247, 752 votes.His closest rival, the incumbent Governor Idris Wada polled 204, 877.

The election originally held on November 21, 2015 was declared inconclusive due to the huge number of voided votes, and another drama was thrown into the mix with the death of the APC Candidate Prince Abubakar Audu on the same day.
INEC also declared that there would be supplementary election in 91 polling units spread across 19 local governments.The councils are Adavi, Ajaokuta, Ankpa, Bassa, Dekina, Ibaji, Ida, Igala-Mela, Okehi, Odohun, Ijimu, Kabba/Bunu, Lokoja, Ofu, Olamaboro, Okene, Omala and Yagba West and Kogi Kodokafi.
Three days after the logjam, INEC announced that the APC can replace Audu, and fixed Saturday December 5 for supplementary election. APC  decided to chose Bello  who came second in the APC primaries as its new candidate despite strong opposition from Hon. James Abiodun Faleke who was the running mate to the late Audu.
According to Returning Officer, Professor Emmanuel Kucha, Bello was declared duly elected after fulfilling all constitutional requirements.
